When discussing AI, two concerns often dominate the conversation:
- The rise of deepfakes
- The automation of jobs
Here are some thoughts on the second point: job automation.
Most people don’t like their jobs.
According to Gallup, only 23% of global workers find their work engaging.
So,I think it’s inaccurate to say people fear losing their jobs.
What they actually fear is losing their income.
And this is a very important distinction.
If we can earn the same income by working less or doing more enjoyable work, I think most people would prefer this.
And producing more with less is exactly what automation is all about.
But the key is who benefits from that automation.
And the answer is whoever owns the means of automation.
And this is why it’s very important that each of us owns our digital brains.
This will allow us to participate in the new economy as part owners in the means of automation instead of just Big Tech.
